The first months of the New Year often mean losing some pounds, though for many of us, we find ourselves losing our way within a few weeks. This is sometimes down to a lack of motivation and little obvious results on the scales.

However, we do not always see the results of our endeavors on the scales alone and there are often a number of other manners in which we are healthier and have improved. Fortunately, with the advent of the smart phone, there are a number of apps that can easily show us these improvements and motivate us into getting down to a healthy and sustainable weight.

Body Mass Index – Nutrisystem BMI App

There are a number of applications out there for iPhone and Android that will calculate your body mass index (BMI). This BMI is the weight to height ration of a person,  and such apps will calculate a BMI to within a healthy range of between 20 -25. This can be a great way to motivate you and your weight loss and show some encouraging results.

Running Apps – Runmeter GPS

Running apps are a great way to give you an idea of how successful you are at burning the weight off and may also show you how fit you have gotten. Through the use of GPRS and running logs, your running apps can record johgs you did at the start of your new weight loss and fitness  regime and allow you to easily track improvements. High end running and exercise apps will show you calories burned, speeds you ran at and a whole host of other information, which may encourage you to get fit and show how much fitter you have gotten.

These apps can be used to show the amount of calories a meal has and also allows you to see the savings you make on eating traditional meals. Such apps can really aid dieting success and help you shed those unwanted pounds.

Body Fat App -  Army Body Fat Calculator

Body fat apps can track the increase, or decrease in your body fat using some quite sophisticated technology. Body fat can be a good determination of how your diet is going. The more fat you lose the more successful the diet. For many people, these apps are great, especially if they wish to maintain weight but increase body muscle. These apps can be used to calculate the drop in fat and increase in muscle – something measuring weight alone won’t tell you.

Recipes – Epicurious

Of course to get the most from your exercise, you must put healthy food into your body. By getting a good healthy recipe app you will have an abundance of ammo with which to treat your body right and ensure you have a number of tasty recipes along the way. Download one of these to ensure dieting success and avoid the boredom of the often banal foods people eat when dieting – a common cause of giving up on weight loss.
