Losing weight is the Holy Grail for most overweight people because most of the solutions out there are fantasy. What happens is that most solutions that you find to lose weight are easy but don’t work, many people just end up getting tired because they try so many solutions and none works.

Early Years

Family

As the fourth richest person in Britain, who has been married a couple of times, Ecclestone has three daughters who have no problem with living the good life. An estimated wealth of $4.2 billion means that Bernie could give his daughter a $12 million wedding recently and not feel any kind of sting or pinch in his pocket. His daughter Tamara was also able to buy the former Aaron Spelling Manor for the discounted price of $55 million. Clearly this family does not live on bread and water.

Considering his wealth and position, Ecclestone has created his own bit of controversy in the world of celebrity. These are people who have their every word scrutinised and twisted, but that does not change the fact that Bernie Eccelestone is the one laughing all the way to the bank, hopping to the bank actually because he is often perceived to have one of his feet in his mouth most times.

Foster the People’s song Pumped Up Kicks was practically a big hit as soon as it hit the airwaves. With its indie, atmospheric sound and its infectious groove, it had many people singing along before they could even stop to think about the lyrics. Once the lyrics came to light, Pumped Up Kicks took on a whole new meaning altogether – literally. It seemed there was much more to this song than just a catchy rhythm and hook. Pumped Up Kicks was a statement – and a very controversial one, at that. So, just why was this popular song so controversial? Here’s the rundown:

The lyrics. If you listen closely, you will find that this seemingly light and airy song is in actuality quite heavy. Take the chorus, for example: “All the other kids with the pumped up kicks you’d better run, better run, outrun my gun/All the other kids with the pumped up kicks you’d better run, better run, faster than my bullet.” There’s nothing light about kids threatening to shoot other kids. So what is this all about?

The connotations. In the light of incidents like the Columbine High shooting, where two school-aged boys brought a gun to school and committed mass murder before turning on themselves, Pumped Up Kicks is a very powerful song. The image of kids shooting other kids is startling, at the least, and inarguably disturbing. However, many argue, it is an issue that we can’t just close our eyes to, because it is very real.

The reactions. Many radio stations reported complaints from some of their listeners when they played the song, which made a controversial situation even more serious. On top of the sensitive subject matter, Pumped Up Kicks sparked debates over censorship.

The song, explained by insiders. When asked about the controversial lyrics, Mark Foster, lead singer of the group that penned the song, explained it this way: “Pumped Up Kicks is about a kid that basically is losing his mind and is plotting revenge. He’s an outcast. I feel like the youth in our culture are becoming more and more isolated. It’s kind of an epidemic. Instead of writing about victims and some tragedy, I wanted to get into the killer’s mind, like Truman Capote did in ‘In Cold Blood.’” Miller went even further to imply that the song was actually a way to speak out about the dangers of bullying: “Pumped Up Kicks is really about bullying and the tragedy that bullying produces. If that kid retaliates in a nasty way, both sides end up being harmed.”

In spite of the controversy, Pumped Up Kicks reached number three on the Billboard charts, and it still has its place in the airwaves. It seems that the real controversy is not the song’s lyrics, but the fact that people still don’t know how to handle violence amongst our youth.

What Is The Future Of Print?

If you’re writing something set in the future, one of the key things you’ll do to demonstrate that it takes place in “the future”- if you don’t want to write about flying cars, is to show that everything everyone reads is on screens. Nobody reads anything on paper in the future.

Even now, when you sit on the tube you’re as likely to see someone with a Kindle as a book. So, is this the end of paper? Can all those tress finally breathe a sigh of relief? Are printing jobs going to go the way of archery and wickerwork specialists?

The outlook does initially look bleak, it can’t be denied. It’s affecting not only large scale printers such as those used by newspapers and book publishers, but even the use of personal printers. In a recent report by financial services firm Morgan Stanley, entitled “Imaging and Printing: Tablets to Reduce Printing Demand” analyst Gary Peterson paints a grim picture. The demand for printing has been falling since 2006, and as more and more people buy tablets such as the iPad that fall in demand has accelerated by between 8% and 15%. Soon the 1.3 billion printers installed across the planet are due to be outnumbered by tablets and smart phones. We’re heading into the age of reading off screen.

But despite all this, there is still something to be said for reading off a medium that doesn’t need batteries, where the adverts are neatly tucked away at the side of the page instead of constantly threatening to jump out of it. The big question, and the question that everyone from book publishers to newspapers to magazines are desperately trying to find the answer to right now, is how can we still make money out of it?

Luxury Items

To a certain extent this is an approach some industries are already taking to respond to the challenges of the Internet. With massive televisions becoming the norm, and pretty much any film you could ever want to watch available instantly, and illegally, online, cinemas are responding by jacking up the price and emphasising elements such as the latest wave of 3D technology, or Imax theatres. Plenty of magazines are gradually transforming into pricey, glossy coffee table books, with publications such as the limited edition Nomenus Quarterly that comes at several thousand pounds per issue at the most extreme end of the scale.

For newspapers we could see special, commemorative copies for the day of your wedding, or your child’s first birthday.  However, there’s going to be a lot of resistance to pushing newspapers in this direction, as it’ll mean investing heavily in the redesign of the papers to appeal as luxury, rather than mass-market items.

Printing from Home

The Berg Little Printer is a device that creates special, personalised newspapers filtered to match your interests. It’s a dinky looking little device, with a smiley face on the front that looks eerily like a cartoon Hitler without the moustache. The “newspaper” it prints off looks a little like a shopping receipt, with a selection of news stories and puzzles. Berg’s CEO, Matt Webb is a fan of paper, and believes that even in our digital, social media heavy age we’re still going to want paper.

“We love physical stuff. What’s great about paper is that it’s made for sharing,” Webb has been quoted as saying. “You can scribble on a puzzle and give it to a friend, or stick birthday reminders up on the fridge for your family to see. Paper is basically a technology tailor-made for a home full of people.”

The Free Paper

If you want people to read something, give it to them when they’re bored. Doctors’ waiting rooms, long train journeys, church- if you’ve got a room and a chair and nothing else to do, people will read whatever you put in front of them.  In London both the Metro and the Evening Standard have done well out of this strategy, but even they will find things get harder as the Tube gets fitted with wifi. But as long as there are bored people on public transport, and advertisers willing to pay for space, you’re going to get free papers.

At the end of the day, paper is going to be around for a while. It’s cheap, and it’s a physical object that even now lends itself a certain amount of authority that digital only publications don’t have. However, while printed publications as a whole may survive, exactly which businesses manage to make will depend on who is able to adapt quickest.

2.    Superman Returns

Lex Luthor’s setup, as befits such a rich man, is rather impressive. Mind you, not as impressive as the brew that’s being cooked up in the middle, which coincides with a power shortage that – if I remember correctly – knocks out transportation and flight traffic worldwide, including the launch of the space shuttle carrying Lois Lane.

Meanwhile, one single figure manages to derail the train and cause the destruction of his entire model city. No wonder Luthor, perhaps sensing things to come, is angry.

3.    Back to the Future III

Doc Brown might be skittery and more than a little odd, but he’s a man on a mission. It may involve laying a clapped-out sports car cum time machine in front of an oncoming train, but at least he’s carrying out a test run first. That’s a real scientist for you. Plus he’s got the hair and everything.

4.    The Wrong Trousers

Ah, Wallace and Gromit. They might not be able to spot a criminal penguin pretending to be a chicken by wearing a rubber glove on its head, but they’re certainly not going him escape. It’s a pretty epic chase, even by their Heath Robinson-esque standards, and in the end, they’re helped

The word strategy is defined as a pre-designed plan of action initiated to achieve a certain objective, goal or target. The essential distinction between strategies and tactics is time. While strategies aim for long term and more profound results, tactics are short term methods to reach a specific goal. Strategy is not judged by a single battle, but by the outcome of the entire war. Strategy is naturally associated with military thinking, since the concept had originated from one of the primal needs of humanity; keeping your people and territories safe and powerful either by defensive or by offensive actions.

Mankind, armed with the unique gift of intelligence, has translated and developed the elementary instincts and urges, found among most animals, to complex and complicated scams, plans and actions. Strategies try to answer any possible future scenario in order to get a desirable outcome. The more advanced the strategy is the more details, stages and tactics it includes.

People implement and use strategic thinking in almost any aspect of life. On the private level they often do it without even being aware to their own planning process. It’s probably difficult to remember the days when record stores sold nothing but LPs and 45 RPM records on vinyl, but it wasn’t really all that long ago. Many record stores didn’t get rid of their album rack in favor of smaller bins for CD jewel boxes until the late 1980s. And while that may seem like an eternity has passed since those days when CDs began dominating the music market, those small silver discs weren’t around for all that long before another format, digital downloads, came along and began to eat away at the CD’s market share.

Almost as soon as the MP3 compression format was invented, Internet musical downloads became the inevitable dominating force in widespread distribution of music. It all made sense, since distributer could send music all over the world in the wink of an eye with no shipping costs, no jewel boxes to manufacture and no discs to burn. The purely electronic world seemed like a dream come true to the record industry. But there was also a dark side to the Internet revolution when music fans began posting song files online in massive databases of pop music, and the record companies and the recording artists were seeing no profit from those free file swapping sites.

One Thing That Stayed The Same

The record business has changed a great deal since the early days of music downloads, but one thing that has not changed is an appreciation for vinyl records. The old styled LPs have been coming back in fashion after being eclipsed by the smaller, higher capacity CDs, which promised crystal clear sound reproduction, and offered a new way to listen to music in your car. Finally, motorists were freed from the low-fidelity cassette tape as the only way to get recorded music playing over your car stereo speakers.

Still, many found that CD left a lot to be desired. Sure, they contain more music than does the average LP, and you don’t have to flip them over to hear an entire album’s worth of music. But many audiophiles complained that CD sounded a bit sterile, lacking in the depth of sound and warmth of good old-fashioned vinyl recordings.

So, a funny thing happened. Years after the LP was declared dead, music fans are going back to the old ways, and perhaps seeking out and listening to the Beatles vinyl albums on their stereo turntables. In fact, vinyl sales are growing faster than any other musical recording format, which could mean that those dusty turntables in people’s attics are not so outmoded after all.
