Going to the movies is probably one of my favorite past-times. I enjoy going to the theater and watching films on the big silver screen. However, this hobby of mine has become quite of a strain on my budget. My husband is constantly urging me to just rent DVDs, but I could never! I personally think that it is quite blasphemous. Movies were made to be on the big screen. It can get quite expensive especially when my husband and I want to go watch a movie on a Friday or Saturday night. If you like to go to the movies as much as I do and you don’t want to give up the big screen, here are some tips to help you save when it comes to the movies!
1. Go to matinee showings. If you find that you aren’t busy on a particular day, or that you really want a break from work, go to a matinee showing of a movie. These are usually a lot cheaper than nighttime and weekend showings. You will be able to enjoy the theater because not a lot of people go to matinees.
2. Buy lots of tickets. If you know that you are going to go to the movies a lot next year, plan for it! Buy tickets in bulk. You could be saving yourself a lot in the long run. There are some restrictions that apply, such as tickets might not be good for debuts of movies. But that’s ok, you’ll still be able to see the movie eventually.
3. Loyalty earns points! If you become part of a loyalty program at the theater that you frequent the most, you can save yourself some money. You can even get free movie tickets or tubs of popcorn. Make sure you ask your theater about a loyalty program that they might have.
4. Share the snacks. If you love the theater popcorn and butter, make sure that you bring along a pal to share them with. It turn out that the smaller something is at a movie theater, the more expensive that it is. Opt to buy the tub of popcorn and save yourself a bundle!
5. Look for freebies. Many theaters often have showings of movies in the summer months. They may also offer discounts for children and senior citizens. Don’t be afraid to ask about the deals that they have going on!
